Some doubt as to whether this meeting would take place, as yet again the current Pub Landlord has left. Fortunately the lady hoping to buy the pub has agreed to the meeting going ahead and if she is successful in her bid future meetings will continue free of rent and sandwiches provided free of charge. The President informed members that Jim Walton had requested that his letter of resignation be recinded and as no formal letter of acceptance had been sent to Jim, he was happy to agree to this. Simpson dinner to be at the Britannia Inn on Friday 5th of February, 7.30/8.00

The President read a letter from Jim Walton tendering his resignation from the Club, due to reasons over which he had no control. Also enclosed was a cheque for £20 re fines and contribution to the whip. Secretary asked to reply by letter to him. Mr Phillipson asked that consideration be given to the Simpson dinner and after a show of hands the proposed venue was the Britannia Inn Dalton and 2nd chioce the Farmers at Newton on either the Friday or Tuesday during the first week of February. The meeting was formally closed, following which an xmas buffet was enjoyed by all.

Nov 1998. Thanks were given to John for an excellent Ladies night dinner, the only fault being the poor attendance of only 12 members, it being felt that more effort could be given by members to attend this annual function. The President mentioned prior to the book sale that income from sales over the past 2 years had decreased and expenditure for book purchases had increased. He hoped therefore that these would be a good response in tonights bidding. In the absence of Mr Macgregor, Terry Braithwaite conducted the sale doing an excellent job which has raised more money than the last three sales. December meeting to be on 16th with a buffet paid from Club funds.

The President read out a letter from Ernest Boddy tendering his resignation from the Book Club and the Secretary is to reply by letter accepting this but with great regret, Ernest having been a member for some 35 years. Membership has now fallen to just 24 and members were asked to consider proposing names for membership to increase numbers. Mr Phillipson advised that price per head for Ladies night was now £15-25 plus 50p gratuity.

Again a poor attendance, one less than last month. Ladies Night dinner is to be at the Fishermans Arms on Thursday the 12th November, 7.30/8.00pm. Cost per head £15.00 plus 50p gratuity.

Poor attendance, there being only 14 members present. The President praised Mr Phillipson on the excellence of the Forster dinner, which was Terry’s Swansong having resigned as Catering Officer.

The President advised members that due to health reasons Ron Porter had telephoned him to tender his resignation from the Book Club. Mention was again made that names could be put forward for proposed membership of the Club as membership was now down to 25.
