February 1998

The President welcomed Dr Steven McQuillan to the Club, advising him of his duties as a Steward. A copy of the Club’s rules and a list of members having been given to Steven by the Secretary. John Wood informed the President and members that the manager of the Railway could be leaving during the next two months but he would keep us in the picture regarding developments as and when he could.

January 1998

President read out letter received from Jack Blyth tendering his resignation. Secretary to reply advising that should he ever wish to visit the Club at a monthly meeting he would be most welcome. Ballot for Dr McQuillan was favourable and Simon Rogerson was asked to bring him along to the February meeting. He was also advised that as Dr McQuillan was now a member he could if he so wished attend next weeks Simpson dinner. Tom Walton is arranging for the Club records to be on view that night. John Wood informed members that the cost of the xmas buffet had been increased from £50 to £55.

November 1997

The President thanked Mr Braithwaite for having organised the Ladies night dinner which he said appeared to be enjoyed by all. John Phillipson however said he had not really enjoyed the evening mainly because of the fact that there were no proper seating facilities at the Old Mill other than remaining sat at the tables where the dinners had been served. He was also not over impressed with the meal but accepted that others had enjoyed it. Terry then mentioned the Simpson dinner to be held in February 98 and thought we should be deciding on venues now rather than in January. After some discussion it was decided on the Brown Cow Dalton.

October 1997

Apologies for absences. Mr Macgregor raised the matter of membership and that there are three vacancies. It is in the Club’s interest to try and keep the number of members up to 29 where possible. Mr Wood advised that the tenants of the Railway were leaving at the end of November and that new people would be managers. He will advise us as to whether we will be able to continue our monthly meetings at the Railway.
