John Phillipson presented the club with whisky (very good too). Letter from Mr Bamford explaining his resignation due to ill health of his wife read out to members. Mr Harry Miller to be invited to join the club. John Phillipson suggested Chequers for Ladies Dinner, accepted. John Wood now retired is to see if our archives can still be kept in the Nat West strongroom at Dalton. Mr Taylor reminded us that some subs are still outstanding. £10 owed by Mr Phillipson and Mr Searle. Card from Mr Macgregor describing his exploits in Hungary. Mr Jones wanted to know if the card had a stamp on it?. Could this be a slur on Gordon’s Nationality?.

Dr Rogerson proposed Club should continue for one year, approved. Drank the health of Jim Walton on his retirement. A.G.M minutes read and accepted. Mr Taylor submitted accounts, (He had been to the races at Carlisle today) and requested permission to sit down and present his accounts.It was accepted that the subscription be held at £10. Mr Taylor was applauded for his sterling effort in declaring a dividend. Mr Macgregor:- First one to complain about the quality of the books gets the job of buying them. Cost of books in hard back averaging £17.50, policy has been to buy novels in paperbacks. A healthy Bank balance due to good book sales. Officers to go forward as at present. Mr Phillipson proposed as Assistant Catering Officer. En-Bloc acceptance. Proposer R Stern.

Book Sale, another good effort by Mr Macgregor as auctioneer. Tom Walton has retired. Again we were provided with the usual spirits to help him celebrate the event. More to come next month via Jim Walton.

Mr Braithwaite supplied bottles of whisky and gin to celebrate his appointment to the Furness Anti-Crime Team.

President provided a bottle of whisky to celebrate the occasion of his retirement , we drank his health in the time honoured way. Mr Stern sent a postcard from New Zealand which he had reached on his world tour. Someone asked if he had sighted a Mr Macgregor on his travels, since Mr Macgregor had been absent for three meetings, visiting his sister in Canada. However Gordon turned up himself tonight and regaled us with his hilarious exploits. Mr Braithwaite was congratulated on his organisation of the “Simpson Dinner” and Mr Phillipson had used his influence with the Chappels Restaurant management.

Simpson Dinner to be at Chappels Restaurant on the 14th March. Only 17 present tonight. Mr Cassley presented the Club with bottles of whisky and gin to celebrate his retirement, which according to the President is now classed as a post of profit in order to obey the Club rules. On receiving the Club members good wishes and thanks for the spirits, Mr Cassley replied in one word – “Thanks”.

Ballot was favourable for Lawrence Searle and he will be welcomed next month. Xmas supper to be paid from Club Funds. A £10 gratuity allotted. Business expedited and meeting closed so members could tuck into supper.
